Chris and Milly left on Friday night – very sad to see them go, although we will see them in Auckland at Labour Weekend. We stayed the night near the airport at the Prince of Lillies – nice people but very hard single beds and a strange shower. We were up at 4.00am to be at the airport by 5.00am as required. The check in staff did not turn up till well after this though, despite a very long queue.

However, the 2004 Olympic games brought a renewed sense of pride and planning back to Athens which is now much cleaner, safer, and more enjoyable ...
... quite comfortably into Athens. It's a wonderful city. I've become more sorry about my unfortunate visit here with the Navy in 2000. At that time, this city just seemed rough and hostile to Americans with little to commend it. My experience this summer couldn't be more different. This city is very friendly and safe with amazing sights and great food. It's got lots of great pedestrian streets on which to navigate, and tourists and residents seem to ...

By the end of the night he was promising to translate the book I'm planning to write about my travels into the Greek language in preparation for the Greek market. Imagine me and Seamus Heaney, a noble prise winner being spoken about in the same conversation ;0). His youngest daughter joined us after awhile so before long we had half the family ...
Athens, Attica, Greece talamarko... mythological sites of Atlantis, the debating grounds of Plato and Socrates, the mountain of the gods, and perched monasteries. Along the way, by train by foot by bus by ferry by car and sitting, we would catch up with conversations on our lives, the American election, life in America, spirituality, and more and eat desserts and ice cream and enjoy beautiful views, and walk through canyons and forests, and explore Greek culture, both ancient and present. Here we go.

Athens, Greece eurotrash... trying to keep warm, and when Adam went up close to take pictures for me, one of the puppies ventured out from under the table and cuddled up under Adam's feet! It was very cute. So I asked Adam if I could take them home, and he said no, so I cried. So after about 6 hours of walking, we were exhausted, but we did book our ferry ride to Crete, which is where we will be heading tonight.

While she cornered the dockmaster, he came over to me with half-packed luggage and said, “’ould you ‘ook a’ter ‘is?” I interpreted that to mean that he wanted me to watch his luggage while he went back to his girlfriend/wife and tried buying a ticket. I agreed, which got Dianne very nervous. “If it’s a choice between their luggage and getting on this boat, we’re getting on the boat,” she said. I had to ...
