Stranded in the snow

... realised that the snow must indeed be exceptional and that the trains must be disrupted. They were. No trains were going anywhere. We waited for a while to see if the trains would start moving but by 10:00 we were told the situation would be reviewed at 12:00 noon so we all headed across the road from the station to a Starbucks as the cafe at the station was full of other waiting passengers. We stayed in Starbucks until almost 2:30 only buying a couple of hot drinks. Some of the ...

... from the taps no one tried the bath. Some of the party got a taxi to a public bath house after we had eaten but we didn't as we were so tired we just wanted to go to bed. Out onto the streets of Matsumoto, it wasn't long before I began asking "why didn't we stay here?!". The whole layout and apparent convenience of the place just seemed more friendly, easier, and just allround better than Nagano. If I'd had my ...

Day 12 - Nagano. Now we're cold.

... a store of this magnitude stocking only hardcopy books would still be a viable venture. But to be honest business was booming. There were lots of people on every floor, all thumbing through books, and I think every one of them stopped reading to stare at the lost Aussie tourists, who obviously couldn't read a word of Japanese, as they walked through the bookstore searching for an exit. We purchased a couple of little items on level 2 just to make it appear like it ...
