Volcano island

So... After our relaxing mountain retreat at Salva Negra we caught a bus down to Managua and on to Rivas where we caught a ferry out to Isla Ometepe. Isla Ometepe is actually quite a big island in the middle of lake Nicaragua, which is basically two volcanoes which joined together, after erupting, forming one island. One of the volcanoes is still very active and clouds dribbled out of the top, almost constantly. The island was very pleasant and relaxing although, there are not a whole lot of ...

Moving On

It's unfortunate that a single event can sour an entire experience and I hate to give the punk who stole my camera that much power over me, but I find that I'm extremely nervous when I hear someone behind me and I check my door at night 5 times to make sure it's locked. I had been feeling a little silly that I would walk down streets smiling and just digging everything I was seeing...but that's done now. I find myself forcing myself to smile when someone smiles at me. ****** me off but that's...

One Night in Ometepe

... we are, we got completely ripped off at the ferry terminal when we had to pay $5 per person for the park entrance fee. The fee was supposed to be 10 cordobas (which is about 50 cents) however, the lady at the ferry terminal entrance knew we wouldn´t be able to argue with her (even though Kent tried) and she won.
We didn´t do too much planning before heading to Ometepe - all we knew was that we were probably going to do the hike and that we wanted to stay in ...

A death defying experience

... out Luis had asked us if we wanted to go to the top. We all agreed that we did, whats the point in climbing a volcano if you cant get to the top? Apparently you could stop at 1200 meters if you wanted to, but we felt we were fit enough to take it on.

We got out of the jungle at about 900 meters. The sun was beating down on us at this point, with just a bit of bush and grass around us. I made the mistake of looking up and seeing a hell of a lot of volcano still to climb. My ...

Awesome hike all round.

Me and Eugene, a Belarussian (yes, from Belarus!), realized about half way down that catching the ferry off the island would be a really, really close, so immediately after getting down, legs still shaking with fatigue, we set off for the port. We completely missed it and went to Ojo de Agua again, ending up in Moyogalpa for the night. Getting up at way-to-early-o ...

Playa Maderas

... asked for... i am just happy! 24.04.09 Finally I can say that time on the Pacific, with the people I met and the fun I had with surfin will be the one of a thousand places for me... I really loved being there and by now I know that cities are not my favorite spaces... I long for sea, bonfires, tranquility, ron&coke and sleeping with the wind around your nose...definitely!
