... realised that the snow must indeed be exceptional and that the trains must be disrupted. They were. No trains were going anywhere. ... other fauna that this pool seems to attract is the professional photographer, and their behavior was much more interesting. A line of 20 or so photographers standing shoulder to shoulder, some with tripods set up, all jostled for position with their eyes tightly jammed into their viewfinders, and their massive zoom lenses aimed squarely at the 2 monkeys in the pond, waiting for them to do something.

Day 13 - Impromptu Karuizawa and Matsumoto Castle

The views over the city of Matsumoto at sundown, which is circled on all sides by snow covered mountains, was pretty special. Within the castle itself, virtually no area is off-limits, so we were able to explore the whole castle by ourselves before cautiously returning to the ground floor.

... a decent snow storm roll in, so with the sun gone down, and the temperature now dropped easily below freezing in the wind, I took Charlotte and Angela for a walk back towards the train station, through the lightly falling snow, to the 7/11 for a selection of dishes and sandwiches for dinner.
