We had a little walk around and saw a lovely bridge over the Loire together with the old canal running alongside. This canal branched off ours and locked down on to the Loire where boats had to travel before locking up again on to the Briare canal. Once the aqueduct was built by Eiffel, it was disused. ... John, it was good fun and our turns ended when we both toppled the tractor over! We then went up on to the veranda with fantastic views across the vineyards and the wine we tasted was one of the local wines from a village that was pointed out in the distance. Their soil had both chalk and flint and this meant that the soil held the heat from the sun much longer into the evening which apparently favoured white grape growing. Monday 30th June 2014

We set off this morning at 8.45 as the first lock would be opened at 9am and we were right next to it so we wanted to be the first after yesterday's frustrations. Just as well because the New Zealanders were just behind us and Misty Morning tucked in behind us putting NZ at the back! Fortunately all 3 of us got into the lock together and that is the way we sailed throughout the day.

... to explore Bourges on Sunday. It was worthwhile, as we had the chance to explore the Bourges Cathedral and the old town itself. There are many sections of the town which date from the medieval times, with wooden framed houses down most lane ways. It is a town of about 66,000 friendly people. We found a wide choice of restaurants and cafes on Saturday, but fewer on Sunday.
