  • The lack of air conditioning or fans in some of the hostels in France. It was damn near impossible to take a nap during the day or even sleep during the night at times. People kept telling me that I just happen to be visiting during a heat wave. I am starting to believe this is nonsense and it is always hot during this time of year. Do not mess with a man and his naps, give me A/C.

... to see David, so head off to his queue. However, it's going to be 2 hrs in the blazing heat...couldn't do it. So linch instead. J keen for the inevitable pizza, so we decide to avoid the tourists & head off on our own. Found a market just clearing away, & checked a couple of restaurants before finding the ideal one! Pizzas were 4 euros! Not a tourist in sight either. Delicious pizzas too..

After leaving Cortona we slipped briefly out of Tuscany to visit nearby Assisi in the province of Perugia. Resting place for St Francis it was sombre to visit his tomb under the church there, however the rest of the town has been transformed into a religious tourist destination. What said it all was the carousel outside one of the churches that was adorned with religious motifs...note the Francescan monks in the background. ...
