Back to Bocas del Toro
We are getting good at traveling via water taxis. They are fast and cheap. What a beautiful way to travel as you can see the bottom of the clear waters, most of the time, or watch the waves break at a distance, watch dolphins play, and feel the sea breeze against your face. Today, we are back to Bocas. We are staying in Hotel Las Olas, which is a …
Boat trips to secluded beaches
We're staying at Hotel Olas right on the water...pretty amazing place. We went out on a boat trip today, saw dolphins, went snorkeling, ate at a restaurant in Macca Bite on Isla Bastiementos and chilled out at Red Frog Beach, also on Bastiementos. Gret trip, except for two grumpies that started demanding things and left early. But we met some great …
Panama and Parting Thoughts
$32 dollars bought a ticket on a 'direct' shuttle and boat to Bocas del Toro, the remote island paradise in the north western corner of Panama. The shuttle was an old van filled to capacity and basically dumped us at the border in Sixola. We were swiftly exited from Costa Rica and made to walk across the river via a rather old railway bridge. The …
Leatherbacks at last!
We left Boquete a few days ago. We left early in the morning, when it was still dark, and had to jump over the wall of the hostal as the gate was locked! We took the 6am bus to David and then changed onto another bus going to Almirante. This journey took four and a half hours and took us through some spectacular scenery, up over the Talamanca …

Our room was very small but clean and it had a window that opened right onto the water. Quite nice. The on-demand water heater kind of freaked me out - i had never seen one like it before. It worked more or less. Our room was quite noisy as it was across the hall from the supply room which had a sliding door that banged every time it was closed. The breakfast was a muffin and not a great muffin. The coffee was excellent though and you could buy really good smoothies. Smoking was allowed on the open air common area which could get kind of stinky. The manager (Ben) and Nada who worked the front desk during the day were great as were the cleaning staff. The other front desk staff though were very indifferent and not very helpful. I'm not sure I would stay here again.

The rooms are clean (ours had a funky smell about it) and the hotel is standard. Request a room that is not on the ground floor if you want a quiet night.

A great view and possibly heaven for everything else.
They had excursions to offer that cost from 20USD to 40USD.
The staff was friendly but for the price we paid they could have had a bigger included breakfast.
