We've spent one night in Matsumoto, at a nice little hostel that gave us bikes for free! So we explored Matsumoto, which is not very big and very "bike-friendly", and visited Matsumoto Castle. Suwa lake and geyser
... found the Suwako geyser but suspected it might not be as natural as we hoped as it had a sign telling folk when it would erupt.
Whilst we waited for the next eruption we could see what looked like a waterfall across the other side of the lake. We were a bit bemused when it seemed to stop and disappear.

Matsumoto city and castle
... Howvwer we were grateful he told us it was fish stock as we didn't want bad tummies again.
Still raining, we found a steak and pasta restaurant and ordered dinner. Towards the end of dinner a gentleman came and asked us in impeccable English if he could help us in any way. He explained he was the septagarian owner and had been born upstairs. He was a real gent.
Still tipping down we made it back to the hotel.

We set off early towards the Tateyama National Park. We had a few doubts about the efficiency of the Sat Nav as it seemed to take us round in almost circles. We were heading up to Murudo to see Mt Tateyama, but all of a sudden the Sat Nav lost the route. We saw a sign for Shimyo Falls so decided to head up there.
