We reached Norzin's apartment by about 10pm. She had prepared a delicious tapioca pudding together with a bought cake and roasted soba (buckwheat) tea. This was despite her working all day and being slightly unwell. We had told her not to bother and to rest up instead but she did not listen.
Shigeki took us back to the Palace Hotel by 11am where we passed out for the night.
... museum(free entry with castle ticket) which had some decent samurai armour, swords and guns. I then had a wander around Matsumoto which like Nagano moves at a much slower pace than Tokyo and for that reason has a much more relaxed feel.
I then headed back to my hostel in Nagano and had a rest ahead of visiting mt fuji tomorrow and the 4 hour train journey.

... Castle too early (opened at 8.30). Museum first and then the castle. Shame about the heavy rain! Climbed to the top of the castle-steps extremely steep. Good views of surrounding area. ... check into our hotel room and pass the rest of the goodies to Norzin, as well as our dirty laundry. She had very kindly volunteered to wash our clothes for us in the washing machine. At least we will have something vaguely cleaner than what my hand washing could offer.

It was late when we got back to the ryokan. Thank goodness! I could now have a bath at the public bathroom with no one else to see me in the nudies. There were three other families there at the ryokan.
