We thought we were pretty good at catching trains. This morning we managed to catch the wrong one which set us back a couple of hours. Quite a few train changes required in our trip to the Izu peninsula which is (normally) a couple of hours south of Tokyo. We packed up our gear and I'm glad we took the approach of having a base for a week and doing day trips, rather than packing up an switching accommodation every day or two. After taking us up to another, lower mountain lift that was still being run, the tour guide tried to describe how beautiful Mt. Fuji is when you can see it. (It is amazing, Mt. Fuji looks exactly like the Alps (at least the way they looked when I spent several days in the rain in Salzburg). The company found a nearby lake and arranged for ...

... housing base so we will have easy access to military amenities and perhaps future friends. The house is gorgeous and spacious. The Navy will have to do an inspection this week, and there is a lot of paperwork. Thankfully we learned how to pray and make our wishes at a Shinto Shine this week. After three days of Navy and cultural briefs, we were rewarded with a field trip. The main purpose was to help everyone get comfortable with ...
