... s a nice little area with shops and restaurants. The ocean is so strong here, constantly throwing big green waves on the beach. Most of the beaches in this area have signs that say "No apta para banarse"- not suitable for swimming. Kaye says there's a strong undertow.

I came home and had a splendid afternoon doing laundry and watching Jane Austin's Persuasion. Monique would be so proud. Kaye has quite the movie collection. We also watched the ...

Vina del Mar, Chile malvada... Canada) turned 20 today. Crystal, Brittany, Genevieve and I all met up in downtown Viña del Mar and walked to a neat restaurant called Margaritai. We bought Genny a couple of drinks and had a good time talking and laughing with each other. The customers on the second floor of the restaurant were singing karoake, so we had quite a few laughs about that.

Today, (Wed. Vina del Mar, Chile etroeschFavourite Chilean get-away spot for the hyped-up citizens of Santiago. The Garden city, just a few stops away on the metro from Valparaiso. Fonck-museum is recommended. Story on: Valparaiso y Viña del Mar
Vina del Mar, Chile fnasse... to say, I was up for going out and drinking that night. A group from the hostel and I went to a fun under-ground reggae concert, then to an old famous Chilean bar which turned into a dance club after 3am. It was a great last night in the city. I woke up the next morning and was disappointed that the hair disaster wasn´t one of my vivid dreams. I said goodbye to everyone and caught a bus to Santiago where I would try my first couchsurfing adventure.
Valparaiso, Chile annapriester... book, giving her a good review. I guess she wants to get more hours! The lady was positively prescient, when she said to me - "If you want to improve your Spanish, you need to find a good Chilenita to practice with!" Chilenita basically means "petite little Chilean woman". She read my mind! And I did find a Chilenita, Liszett! But she didn't give me any Spanish lessons, only some TP. Ben and I walked around a town a bit more, then down to ...
Vina del Mar, Chile pwong... I had earlier called to make a reservation, but was told none were available tonight. We figured it was worth a shot to see if they could take a walk up, since we knew there were other good options nearby, if they couldn't accommodate us. There was no room, so instead, we tried Café Turri, a restaurant featured in our guidebooks, and also highly recommended by Brent, from Santiago. It was interesting that you need to ring the doorbell to gain ...
Isla Negra, Chile pwong... sounds silly but Interzone people generally have identity issues which they resolve linguistically, no exceptions allowed. They can speak your language; you can't speak theirs, PERIOD, end of discussion. To see you hobbled increases their own sense of self-importance. I speculated on this in Thailand for years, to critiques of paranoia and ego issues on my own part. Whatever the truth of my own shortcomings, I was right on this. It's ...
Valparaiso, Chile hardiek... to visit Neruda's home, which is a crazy little 4 story house designed by Neruda himself. It feels kind of like the inside of a ship, with nooks and crannies, a stairway to nowhere, brightly colored walls, ship portal windows and an amazing view of the sea. Neruda captured the essence this city well in his poem "Ode to Valparaiso," calling it "crazy, with ...
Valparaiso, Chile bron_and_eli... side of the springs. a few underwater handstands later and a bit more flowing el vino we had gone full circle to meet john the irish guy again, however he is officially the biggest lightweight in all of ireland as he was drunk and just complained for an hour about how it was an outrage that on tvs "greatest Britain" we voted oliver cromwell as number 2 but really he was nothing but a tyrant who burnt irish peoples houses down! anyway after a few hours of ...
