... everywhere you look -- from the medieval, cobble-stoned streets, the chiesas (churches) and castles, ceramics and arts, to the mountains and sea!

Food, conference, accommodation all included in my 500Euros registration for the week. The food was a pleasant surprise -- each one a two-course meal of local cuisine with different restaurants. I love seafood and there's no shortage in Sicily!

Sicily never fails to amaze with its ancient monuments. Segesta and Selinunte were a fascinating day trip. Both were built around 400 centuries BC, the earliest and most important Greek colonies in Sicily.

First stop was Selinunte. The Doric temple and the Acropolis were highlights of this most important ancient Greek colony in Sicily. We had to pay 6 Euros entrance. The bus had to pick us up from ...

... have breakfast and booked me into a little self catering apartment which was half the price of any available hotel. The cleaning lady was still there but they allowed me to go in and leave my stuff. After a shower, change of clothes and quick sink-wash of my undies, I went out for a stroll and sampled a Sicilian sandwich, which seems to be pastry in a bun... There may have been potato in the pastry, I'm not sure!

The place is very unique and quite rustic. They live as simply as possible and waste nothing, eat what can be grown, or traded for other things. The mountain and sea views from here are amazing, and there will be opportunities for exploration too. The guys are very interesting and like to have discussions to find out more on ...

Woke up on the bunk bed feeling remarkably well considering that I had consumed every sea going crustacean that my Italian will stretch to. Ian had disappeared so I went down to a breakfast of strawberries, freshly squeezed orange juice and beautiful sea views.
