Tríacastela, Galicia, Spain camino_2009I went with Stee and my grandmother to Lugo, a town about 50 miles from A Coruña. The old town of Lugo is surrounded by a Roman wall. Within the walled part of the town are narrow streets and old buildings.

In the late afternoon we returned to A Coruña and departed for Vigo early in the evening.

Triacastela, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands jwhit8744... did not have to worry about finding a place to stay which is becoming a problem for some people. At the end of the day we saw a man in his fifties (walking with his daughter) almost break down and cry when he arrived to find that the small albergue in Eirexe was full.

Without the crowds the walking is good. We are looking forward to reaching Santiago but sad that the journey will be over.
Lestedo, Galicia, Spain saskcamino... in walkers.

Our walk today took us down (up to go down and down to go up). While steep in some places it was, while not easy, not as bad was we had been led to believe.

There are the remains of an old castle (most of it was destroyed during a peasant revolt), some ancient churches and a lovely old monastery. We will be going down to the river shortly to have supper with some Camino friends if we can find them.
Sarria, Galicia, Spain saskcamino... lot to us so we wouldn't have wanted to stay there anyway. So, we had no option but to stay in the Albergue which happened to be a monastery. By the time we got there, the main part was full but there was an upstairs part available. This turned out to be very interesting. The only problem was that we were only allowed to go upstairs, en masse, at 10pm. We showered, stashed the bikes and luggage we didn't need then went to find somewhere shady to cook our dinner. We went to the ...
Sarria, Spain and Canary Islands 50odd7th August 2008 Villa Martin A day of rest A lovely lie in this morning, didn't get up till 0930. Luckily we're camped under trees, so the sun doesn't penetrate till quite late on. Having done all my washing (just about everything I own was dirty) we had breakfast (melon) and then cycled off into a nearby town to do some shopping. Today, we decided, we were going ...
Sarria, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands 50oddThe walls in this Casa are so thin that we heard Lynne, who was two rooms away, say "If anyone has sex, we're all having a cigarette!" We met in the breakfast room at 8:30 for a continental-type breakfast and started hiking at 9:15. This was the toughest leg of the Camino - 8 km uphill (sort of like doing the Grouse Grind two and a half times) to the tiny village of O'Cebreiro. However, the absolutely incredible scenery more than made up for the uphill ...
