Running of the Bulls Festival

... plaza in front of a building that the mayor comes outside of and declares the festival underway at 12 noon. The build up to that point is nuts. Everyone is dressed in white with a red scarf around their waist and a red scarf. Once noon hits, you take your scarf and tie it around your neck for the festival. During that hour up to it people are drinking, singing, and going crazy. People are pouring and spraying sangria, wine and champagne ...

Forest! See ya soon!

This stage has no difficulties, the landscapes begin to change, we left the woods behind us and we begin to see beatiful fields til we reach our destination.

In Los Arcos I don't recommend the main refuge... when we were there we saw lots of bugs, an unpleasant smell, a small kitchen... the village is not very impressive but the main church (worth to see)
A rainy day

We'll remember this stage for the amount of mud we accumulated in our legs. It was an awkward day, at least this stage was pretty easy but the beginning (a huge climb with a lot of mud).

We founded the main refuge in Estella newly renovated, clean, with all the facilities... a nice place where we met people from Italy, Germany and New Zealand , we decided to cook together a huge tipical spanish omelet!!! We also took a walk around beatiful Estella despite of the pain in our legs!
A short but unwell day to Pamplona

... the floats and hooded figures go by, and we are lucky to have a seat outside on the road as the procession passes. We stay for a couple more beers and the crowd dissolves. For some still unknown reason, the procession comes back through the empty streets. It´s like the crowd gave it a been there, seen that attitude but the participants were forced to continue. As such, the 2nd time is much nicer in the twilight hours and once completed, we head inside for ...

No running and no bulls in Pamplona

... dubbed in Spanish! While waiting for the chef extraordinaire (she really is a talented cook, Jaime Oliver recipes or not), I met her lovely dog, Coco. He is just as sweet as his owner, albeit a tad clingy after the smallest display of affection! I laughed when I saw him, remembering the previous night when Vivian asked me if I was afraid of dogs. Coco is a small dog and the most harmful thing he'd be capable of is staining your clothes from ...

... off and the bulls were behind me. I still had a great night out and a good next day after the run. It´s always better if you´re with someone or find some people to hang out with, well that´s what I found and I´m sure you´ll agree. Anyway, so just 24 hours here without any sleep and now I´m off.

... release of the bulls some 800 metres behind us and its pandemonium you cant see a thing except terrified white dressed people with red sashes running for their lives and because its so packed you are swept along and have to fight to hold ya footing. We soon realize there is no bulls just there so fight our way to the side of street and allow the panickers to sweep by (a quarter at least ran so early they didn't see a bull till they were ...

The Other Running of the Bulls

... rbara and I came across the now more ideologist custom running of the 15th of July almost half a lifetime ago. We were stumbling on our way back to sleep up Santo Domingo Street, which is the beginning of the usual bulls run. I will not embellish our state, we had been partying 4 days straight and reality was hitting us as hard as the mid July sun. I have never been that tired ever again and she, as the older and most responsible adult, had joined ...
