... it's more interesting than the motorway. Our first port of call, excuse the pun! Was palm fronted Kavala, it has a hill top castle, an aqueduct dated 1530 and a colourful Panagia old quarter.
The aqueduct is very impressive built in a curve with large arches supporting smaller arches which in turn supports the water channel. The water comes from springs 6.5 kilometres away and was stored in the cistern in the ...

... gullies where recently there has been some serious flooding, what is left of the path is very narrow. We took a few photos and headed back, the sun was just starting to set and the sky was looking very pretty at first orange and the changing to a deep red colour. Back at the main road we drove into Keramoti to catch a ferry to Thassos, one of Greece's greenest and gentle islands. It has sandy beaches hidden in rocky coves and pine clad mountains. As we approached the ferry an official waved us to hurry, the ferry is about to go. We quickly bought the ticket and with 2 minutes to spare we drove on. ...

The suns shinning, we're in the mountains! All is good.
Our destination today is a Pomak village called Thermes, famous for it's hot springs, there is a bath at a small hotel or a free one at the edge of the village. The drive is lovely in the sunshine, we pass through several villages, the houses all whitewashed with red tiled roofs. Most have flowers growing in pots or in window boxes they look very pretty. Each village has mosques and churches. The local ...

    Walking the bay of Kavala

On our final day, I walked to the west end of Kavala by the Lucy Hotel, which appears to be a beach resort. I roamed around the rest of the city and met with Kinda after she finished her presentation for the conference. Kinda was happy although she felt she could have done better. She met many experts on Islamic gardens at ...
