Crypt & Tombs

... The relic was in an elaborate, gold nook where you would walk through, kiss the relic's glass box, and continue on back into the rest of the church. Our next stop was the crypt under St. Demetrius. Once we filed down the stairs it was musty and dark. Nena gave a brief description of the importance of the crypt which was the place where St. Demetrius was tortured and killed.  Our next stop was in Vergina, a town in Thessaloniki, which was the Vergina Royal Tombs ...

We visited the ancient city of Philippi which was our first site with ruins in Greece. Saint Paul visited here during his ministry in 49 or 50 A.D. and was put in jail here for a time. Philippi had be destroyed by an earthquake which ruined many of the great structures. Our tour guide Nena explained that for this site and the many other we were going to see, they are in the condition ...

Greece, We Have Arrived!

A travel blog entry by emilyemoore

This morning we woke up and Nena took us to see the ancient jail cell where Paul was held at Philippi. We saw many other ruins of churches and some houses and a church built in Paul's honor. The floor had a mosaic inscription of his name! We also sang once again in the amphitheater there, only this time it was the alma mater holding our RMC sign and "Sing Me to Heaven" and Maddie, Kenny, and Josh gave a ...
