After the 10-hour ride to Yogyakarta (pronounced Jogjakarta) we got dropped off in a hostel central area and saw about 7 different hostels within 5 minutes. None with bathrooms bigger than a "breadbox". When you shower, you had better make sure everything is removed from the entire bathroom (any towels, toiletpaper etc.) because the entire space is getting soaked.<br><br>Waking up the next morning to fresh fruit and tea was a nice change ...
Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia chelseyandkevin... for Gunung Bromo, the natural wonder of indonesia, so we said we should get there via public transport the next day. After my internet session I met several of Stu's new acquaintances from his Borobudur trip; Louisa, Louis, Nacho (from Mexico) and Pip. It was great to be amongst english people again and have familiar english conversations and british banter, having the same conversations as back at home ...
Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta , Indonesia leehorscraft... contrast to the slovenly, baggy appearances of most western backpackers. Somehow, these ladyboys would shame them into plucking their eyebrows and brushing their teeth a bit more often (or at least one would hope they would have that sort of an effect on people). <br><br>DRUGS:<br><br>You will get offered drugs in any shape, form, or quantity in Southeast Asia. Indonesia has been particularly bad, and at some magical hour, the guys lounging on their motorbikes stop offering transportation ...
Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta , Indonesia sarahandhanan... before someone would want a photo of one of them, or both of them, or hear the words "Harry Potter" giggled by passing school children [Tom: I honed my response to being called 'Harry Potter': 'tanda tangan: satu juta rupiah?' = 'autograph, one million rupiah?'- it didn't work...]. This is a novelty at first, but soon gets quite tiring when you have to keep stopping. Tom, however, does enjoy the attention even if he claims otherwise [Tom: By Borobudur I was bored ...
Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia cereal42... and it is rather sad. Behind the bird market there are the remnants of an old palace (not sure how old) that was ruined in an earthquake, but the cool part was climbing to the top and having a bit of an overview of the city. That area of the city was actually very cool: lots of old abandoned buildings, but also lots of vibrants little sidestreets that were fun to walk around. There was also an old underground mosque which was quite neat. (at least, that's what some local guy ...
Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia myriam_123... own no home or car or really anything of value. i have no wife or children to come home to and i my bank account will always be like an undernourished child...never quite as big as you were hoping for. Dont get me wrong...i love what i do and wouldnt trade it in for the everyday grind that many find themselves in (no offense) but like i said, there are trade offs and now you can add one to the list. you arent there when people you love leave forever. again, thank you everyone
Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia nealinthailand... assets. Its people are varied with different languages, cultures and beliefs. The biodiversity in the country is possibly the finest in the world. Yet, despite the improved governance, and hindered by its large and growing population, I feel there will always be mass suffering in this country just as there is in my motherland of India. Leaving Asia As I made my way to Yogya's airport, I was consumed with ...
Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia chiapoe... understood little of what he said to explain the meaning of the carvings and tiered layout. And after a few minutes most of us were too hot to care. I was the only person in our group able to touch Budda's lucky finger though a particular aperture - mainly 'cos my arms were much longer than everyone elses! As soon as the formal tour was over we pretty much immediately retreated from the high temperature temple and sought some welcome shade and drinks in a cafe by ...
Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia keithb6... Hyatt . It was the nicest hotel that I have ever seen. I have included the website for the Hyatt . It was the most amazing thing that I have stayed in. http://yogyakarta.regency.hyatt .com/hyatt /hotels/index.jsp The first day we spent touring the promondo, which is the Hindu temple. This is the smaller of the two temples in the area. However, it is still ...
