Porto is like Lisbon, only sweeter and fortified!

... are. The distilleries were surprisingly accessible, with all of them offering tours of the caves and tastings, for a fee of course. We were only able to visit a couple (Porto seems to close for 2 hours during lunch) before catching our evening flight out, but we are glad to have tried some new and very interesting kinds of port. Thank you Portugal, we will be back to see more.

More Sea and Sand

We arrived without incident after a short and pleasant journey. Odd campsite mainly permanent encampments! Most of them looked like they had been there for many years. We were entertained by families arriving over the weekend to pack up for the winter. They cleared out all the rubbish that they had accumulated over the summer. They then covered their caravan.awning and covered area with tarpaulin and tied it down and put stones ...

Interesting City and Miles of Golden Sands

We drove to Madelana about 8 kilometers from Porto. As we got near Jessica decided that she was no longer going to be our sat nav floozie and left us in the lurch in a narrow cobbled street. A kind passerby volunteered to accompany us out of difficulty but there was no room in the car. Where upon a passing motorist stopped and offered to lead us to the camp site. There followed a journey down twisting cobbled streets some of them two way as he stopped the oncoming ...

Hardcore Boogie Boarding

... they were hardcore). Good thing we opted for the boogie boards because once in the water, the waves were massive and the undertow was insanely strong. Our hostel was amazing and the owner was chill and helped us map out some cool surf and kite spots along the coast.

http://picasaweb.google.c om/Jonny.D.Lawrence/20091007Aveiro?auth key=Gv1sRgCOOE_tn74bSSKA&feat=direc tlink

Port-no

... the better part of an hour looking for any restaurant that was opened. Our meals were : a tuna salad (a can of tuna, unrippened tomatoes and lettuce) and pork (a peice of pork, rice and french fries.) Long story short we were more then enthusiastic to get on the road in the morning to leave Porto behind

Porto - home of Port

Guess this is the wind down point after two months on the road before I headed back to Ye Olde London town which is probably why I haven't much to report. With a little over a week in Portugal I doubt I did the country justice and only touched the surface. I hit the little hostel which was new and a little inexperienced at it as they had quality ...

Oh, Porto

... mouth of the River Duomo which I did with Rus and walked over a couple of the big bridges they have here on the way. The metro system is pretty slick too, having only been built in the last few years for Euro 2004. We only used it once however, on our way out of town to get the train to Coimbra. I was impressed with that train too, being nicer than most TGVs we got and going almost as fast (up to about 220km/h). Definitely not something I expected in Portugal.

Suprise, its Porto..

... we were going here, so I spoke not a word of the language) and to our blank looks he kept saying Sorry Sorry no English. And then he took off. And pulled over about a two metres later - "Hotel Fenix Hotel Fenix". Yes we were right under our hotel when we called the cab.. Without much of an idea of what was around, the next morning we wandered into town. Adrian took us on a long trek and eventually we landed at tourist info. We picked ...
