... Ras Jdir. A grubby place, full of rubbish, taxis, trucks and men bent over carrying big bundles on their backs full of cheap goods from Libya bound for Tunisia. All along the road towards the border are, amongst the vendors of peaches and figs, the sellers of plastic jerry cans of petrol – bought very cheaply in Libya to be, hopefully, sold in Tunisia. ... ass MacBook Pro in BFE Tunisia? Am I an inferior person because money has bought me a lot of happiness?

OK, while we took it fairly easy in Tunisia, we’re hitting it hard at our next stop: Egypt. Four days in Cairo and five days cruising the Nile from Luxor to Aswan. I’m giddy at the thought…this is the first of the five or six things that I really wanted to do on this trip. I just hope there are some non-Frenchies and Germans to talk to.
