Thanksgiving...Spanish style

... bus to take to the Alhambra, and after a bit of arguing and a lot of waiting, we finally hopped on the correct bus to get us to the site. Tour times for the Alhambra are scheduled for either 9am or 2pm everyday and due to Mom and Torrey's arrival after 9am, we opted to take the 2pm time slot, which meant we waited for another hour before we could gain entrance. Though there was a lot of waiting to be done that morning, it all ended up being worth it once we ...

To the Alhambra...

19 Nov
After a 6 hour drive, (we´ve now covered around 1,600miles since leaving Bmth ) we enter Granada just b4 dark. Granada is the gateway to the Sierra Nevada, and our intention is to stay 2nights, mainly so we can spend one day in the Alhambra. We pitch our tent just b4 dark, the campsite conveniently located 5km outside Granada. We immediately notice a sharp (can see our breath!) drop in temperature, so after a camp meal and a couple of ...

... of the small plaza that sold baked goods. It looked so good and there was a line with about six people. On my way back to the hotel and the meeting point I was doing some serious observations and I observed a ´joven´ go slightly out of his way to step on a crunchy looking leaf. I thought that was great. I´m part of this group on facebook that´s called "I will go slightly out of my way to step on a crunchy looking leaf". I myself will do this but I ...

Granada: Home of Hippies and Gypsies

... in the center while a gypsie woman danced for money. From this point you could see all the Siera Nevadas intersecting and bordering the city. This mountainous landscape with the sun melting into pink and purple behind it sent my mind and eyes into awe. Below the whole city packed tightly together, shined their lights for the evening. From up there Granada looked like only one small cluster compared to the mountain range surrounding it. Atop a mountain straight ...

el rey learns to ski

... the poor bloke a chance. We headed out and met some married chics (who incidentally were bloody hot!!) who ended up stoaked that some guys actually hung around after finding out that they were unavailable. Under their wings, we got to see some of the night clubs and tapas bars in Malaga before calling it a night. The next day, we headed up to the slopes, where el Rey got his first taste of the slopes. With butter knees and skid marks in his pants, el ...

... just wandered the streets for a bit. The fresh air felt very good. Despite the closed shops, and the rain, a number of people were still out and about. Returned to the hotel, then had coffee and chocolate in the bar. My lights would not come on in my room; I received a second key, but they still did not work. So I took it as a sign to go to bed (it was now 10pm ... not late by Spanish standards, but we had a long day today and do have a long drive tomorrow).

As the ferry sails back across the strait between Africa and Europe the rock of Gibraltar looms large. I disembark and drive towards it but can't find any road sign and waste an hour or so trying to find the road that will get me there. Apparently Gibraltar, basically a British Territory occupying a large rock at the tip of Spain, has been a major issue of contention between England and Spain for a long time therefore it seems the Spanish government doesn't feel it needs to be ...

Cabra - Granada 114km

Hiking Veleta Peak

... the wind. After a while the wind increased to the point where it was getting us behind the building so we headed back down. The first couple hundred meters were just brutal because of the wind in our face and the snow soaking our shoes as we half slid down. It's too bad all the rocks were around or else we could have done the old boot-skiing technique and saved some time. We found ourselves back at the bus stop at 4pm and had some hot ...

a weekend in Granada

... for lunch and something similar for dinner. Aside from cous cous, we didn't really know what we were ordering, but the places were recommended and well-reviewed so it didn't matter. mmm I love trying new food! Malaga is pretty much all flat since it's right on the coast so it's been awhile since I've trekked up so many hills. It made me miss Ithaca just a little bit, but then I woke up this morning with sore legs and decided I prefer la playa haha
