Now we have plans for dinner at the hotel - which has good reviews in some guide book - at 7:30 pm. When we were searching for someplace to eat last night, we discovered this about the hotel restaurant. The Tangerine Restaurant and Bar.

... done so - the joys of isolation!) and the name of a little traveller-friendly drinking establishment called Joey's Pub. Not holding up much hope in finding a lot to do in the late Darjeeling afternoon, we headed this way, but quite quickly our attitude to Darjeeling brightened. We managed to meet some of the pluckers and tour through the gardens. One note of interest to us in any case, was how wild the fields were compared to Dooars, Darjeeling, etc. The ground cover was thick and covered unlike the other gardens we had seen which showed little ...

... hell of it. The drive from Bagdogra to Darjeeling took about 3 hours. Hundreds of hair pin bends en route with the ever present mantra "Horn OK Please" and "Avaaz Karo" crucially useful to navigate the tight corners. In about 3 hours, you're climbing about 1700m to get to a height of 2100m asl. Tea. Tea. Tea. Darjeeling tea everywhere! Representing about 70% of the economy of the district- the rest, you guessed it- tourism. We were glad and lucky to get ...
