... We did notice that we were missing the hot broth. Some of the locals started lining up for a table. The owner/waiter finally delivered our broth and then had the audacity to tell us to eat quickly! Come on! It's not our fault! We swiftly finished our meal. I'd chalk up this meal as more of an "experience" as oppose to getting a hardy meal.
We continued with our sightseeing. On the way to Matsumoto castle, we stopped by ...
... Arroz + Curry" pero puedes elegir:
Settling in in Matsumoto. Spent about 4 1/2 hours on trains today, slow one from Nikko to Utsunomiya, a shinkansen to Omiya, another shinkansen to Nagano, then another slow train to Matsumoto. Signs of civilization at the Matsumoto station - a Starbucks!
Hoping that I can find the castle tomorrow. The ryokan has bicycles to lend, so I'm going to try and ...

when i went to the next city, 3 kms sout, i met a nice family, wich sat down with me and eventually the maybe 50 year old woman invited me to stay in her house...and this more than once...after my experiences in china i said nothing binding, because they dont give a **** there about promises, concept of hounour unknown...they have the face-concept, something slightly different.

From Obuse, we travelled further along the train line, into the mountains and to a place called Yudanaka. In the winter you can go skiing around here but obviously there was no snow whilst we were here, just a bit of rain. The reason we came here was to visit the snow monkeys. These monkeys are macaques which come down the valley and are partial to bathing in the natural onsen (hot springs). We got a bus ...
Yudunaka, Chubu, Japan markandchar... If you dont already know, Hokosai painted the many scenes of mount fuji including the famous Wave picture you will all have seen. So it was quite a busy little place, with quite a few tour buses around. After checking in to the hostel we walked down the road to the museum and were inundated with free samples of various japanese foods, some nice some so very not. The exhibition was great, we were both very impressed by his work which included beautiful landscapes, scenes on ...
Obuse, Chubu, Japan markandchar... you can get really close to the monkeys and watching the mums with the baby monkeys is lovely. Unfortunately the monkeys only come down when they are fed so luckily we timed it perfectly and managed to get some brilliant shots. But wait around if there aren't any there once you get there they will soon turn up when the keeps start throwing the pellets on the ground.
We also met an Australian family with a 8 month old baby on a similar trip ...
Beck: OK, it`s not like we expected Nagano to be unusually exciting just because they had the Olympics here 9 years ago, but it really is a nothing little city. There`s a nice temple... and that`s it. Oh, there`s the monkey park, which takes about 3 hours to get to for no good reason (should be an hour in my opinion), which was very nice, but how long can you really spend watching monkeys? I`ll stop grumbling now. They monkeys were cool and there were hundreds of them! All running ...
Nagano, Japan beckandbillWe took the Shinkansen to Nagano using our rail pass and after arriving found out which bus to catch out to M-Wave, the ice skating rink used in the winter Olympics. We had never been ice skating so were willing to give it a try.
Took an old wooden floored bus out to M-Wave and walked past a sign in Japanese then paid for our ticket to the ...
