Barcelona - Day 2

... of what they are talking about, but most of the time, the small details are lost on me. We ate a small dinner and now the guys are talking at the table just as they did last night. These two like to talk, which is a good thing. Me, I took the few minutes that it took to type this up, and then I am going to bed myself. I will upload pictures later. Tonight, due to my shoulder, I will be sleeping on the couch.

Bye Bye Barça

... set it earlier).

On Tuesday, we took a tour of Barcelona focusing on important sites from the Civil War (which endured in Spain from 1936-1939). One especially poignant thing we saw was a shelter built by hand into the side of Montjuïc. Although Germany and Italy both signed a neutrality pact during the Spanish Civil War, both sides offered planes (piloted by German and Italian military members), bombs, and soldiers, to Franco’s army. They ...

... We were just hanging out in there. The rooms are nice and clean as well. Tomorrow we are planning on going on a bike tour that the hostel offers. It takes you around all the main sites of Barcelona. I (Nickol) havent ridden on a bike in forever, so hopefully its true that you never forget how to ride a bike =p Anyways, were going to go back to the common room and then go to bed in a bit. Hope youre all doing well !!!

... theme by attending a design show. To get to the show, we took a quick metro ride out to the edge of town to meet Meredith, an old friend of Jeff's who now lives in spain with her husband and two children. She is in the midst of getting a design degree and we joined her field trip to the CasaDecor show which just happened to be focused on sustainability, an area of great interest for the both of us. It was great to see Meredith who we hadn't seen in a few years and we had fun ...

Don't Cry for Me, Barcelona

... style, think Art Nouveau on acid. I was surprised to see that they are still working on the Sagrada Familia (the church), and they estimate it may be finished according to Gaudi's plans in 70 years or so. There is more Gaudi here than I realized, and there is a lot of other interesting architecture from other periods, but I think most people come to see the Gaudi stuff. I did not go up to the top because I already have vertigo; in fact ...

... haven't enjoyed them as much as we could, so I asked the girl if she had been there and she said no, but she wanted to. Moy interesante. We made it to the "magic fountain" in time for a new show. Every half hour they put on a fountain show in sequence with music and lights. The one that we saw was made up of Disney music in Spanish, which was so cool because I actually knew the words and could kind of understand it into Spanish. It was really ...

Out of Spain.....

... waiting for the boarding call for our 22:30 flight to London. We'll be arriving in Gatwick Airport at around midnight, where Andy will be meeting us. We'll be crashing at his place for a couple days till we get ourselves sorted out, find a place to live, a job, find our way around the city, etc. I've never been more scared. It was scary to leave Buenos Aires for Spain but for some reason, I am more scared now. Could it be fact that we're ...

We went up the spiral stairs until we reached one of the tower top (about 250 stairs I think) & my jaw dropped some more hihihi... thank goodness we had taken a rest earlier, otherwise i wouldnt have the energy to climb it up. In the basement, there is a small ...

Spain: Adventures in Catalonia Country

... he made a hologram of Alice Cooper with an exposed brain. This seems somewhat optimistic considering Mr Cooper's years of reputed drug use; maybe it would be more realistic if Alice had nothing BUT a couple of stale bread rolls in his skull. The Dali museum also contains art by a Catalonian artist, Antoni Pixtot, who painted figures, mostly female, made of stones. We all really liked Pixtot´s paintings, and Libby bought a lithograph of her favorite. I wanted ...
