Also nearby Santillana del Mar are the famous caves of Altamira where in 1875 Palaeothic paintings of animals were discovered. The paintings are estimated to be about 16,000 years old and include herds of bison, deer, and horses, mostly in ...

... bus route was just brilliant - it took you through gorges, past sheer cliff faces, alongside mountains and farms etc etc.

We got to Fuente Te and took the cable car into the clouds. Shame we were unable to see the last 150 m but nevertheless it was excellent.

When we got back to San Vicente we enjoyed some local delicacies. A most enjoyable day.

Not only am I going to miss Santander, I am going to miss the people. We got to know Dutch, Spanish, and British people really well, and it finally hit me that it is going to be hard to see them go!

Looking ahead to this weekend, I really need some rest! There will be a LOT of touring for the next few days, and before I know it, we will all be heading home!

    Until Salamanca!

... the end they decided to leave the buoy and move to the marina. Much to their disappointment (and our sympathies) the marina dried out in LW so we are unsure of what ended up happening to them but we seem to think that they possibly had an unexpected night passage.

In the morning, after a fairly restless night listening to and experiencing the wash from fishing boats leaving and reentering the harbour, we took the dinghy and went ashore and provisioned.

We dropped Julian off at the Brittany Ferries terminal and headed off to Santillana del Mar some 25 kms from Santander.

The village consists of one street which loops around and the buildings date from the 13th and 16th centuries - magical.
