... some pretty large hills with some tunnels stretching 3 or 4 kms. Lots of forest and steep river valleys.
Fukuoka is the 5th largest city in Japan. Big and sprawling, but flat so easy to walk.

Then came a near disaster, the island performance was cancelled and I had to make some feeble excuse to Andy about being worried that bad weather could strand us on the island and we should just visit Fukuoka, where the next Kodo performance was taking place, to see the remains of the fortifications left from the Mongol invasion ...
