Carrying On
... now is the state of the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Several of the reactors were damaged by the quake, and since Friday there have been hydrogen explosions, fires, and the water levels in the reactors (the water cools down the core) have been unsteady, and in one reactor at least, they're low enough to expose the core.

As for restaurants, in Kichijouji you can find pretty much any kind of food you'd care to eat, often for very reasonable prices. The area is also convenient in that it has several import stores, so things like taco shells and Thai curry mixes are easy to get, for those times when you want to cook up something foreign.

Japanniversary - My Third Year
... my weekends to visit some new places in Japan, including Atami and Kanazawa. When my whole family came to visit me in April of 2009, I drove them to the base of Mount Fuji; it was a spectacular view, and a spectacular day.
As for the rest of the year, I was kept busy going to shows, trying out new restaurants, and having a great time in Tokyo.
