True Arrival: Welcome to Miyagi

... of things) gave it an even more "important" air.

Afterwards, I thought my heart attack was over, and right when I was calming down as we were being moved into another room with our supervisor to settle the paperwork, we are suddenly stopped...

Then told to go give a self introduction...

In Japanese....

Infront of the whole working office.

Freaking sweet.

Now, I hadn't prepared anything yet (I was planning on doing that ...

... a more casual outfit. Hiroto has adopted a really mature rocker style. His hair reminds me of a broom (Shou’s words) though. XD I don’t remember what Nao’s outfit was like, but he got a haircut (which he talked about in his MC).

Highlights included headbanging like crazy to the **********gs, whipping out my light for “Fantasy” and “Subaru”, and getting to hear their new single, “Hana”. It ...

... Forus. Bad idea. I came out with a pair of Sixh pants (Sixh being a label created by a couple of visual kei artists who worked under h.Naoto), a shirt from Peace Now with a sailor collar, and Ayabie’s “Aitakute” single. To be fair, the pants are wicked cool and the Peace Now shirt was 70%, which made it closer to $30 instead of $90. Good deal if you ask me, and it’s cute.

Time is winding down

... pack rat.

For my last real meal (breakfast and lunch tomorrow are going to be scavanged), I debated between Café Gati and my student’s family’s gyutan place. The latter won since I’m not going to have the opportunity to eat gyutan back home. Or hayashi rice, which is what I ordered (it had gyutan pieces). My student’s mother gave me watermelon as a sort of bonus when she found out that I was leaving. It made me ...

Sendai Comiket 175 and Natsu Matsuri hanabi

Today was another long exhaustingly fun day. Mika and I went to Sendai Comiket, which was a little out of the way. We couldn't take the rapid train so we had to wait about half an hour at the station. We probably should’ve grabbed a quicker lunch. Anyway, since I packed up my Zero cosplay, I dressed up as Tora from Alice Nine’s "Shunkashuutou" PV and Mika as the green-haired android from To Heart (I forgot her name ...

Sanuma Natsu Matsuri and curry night

Friday night was my last cheap karaoke outing. T_T I'm really gonna miss it.

Saturday morning I got up at 6 AM to catch the bus to Sanuma because I was going to play taiko. Only there was no bus. I wound up calling a cab and being one of the first people at the place. The people in the group weren’t very friendly. Eventually the women warmed up to me, but the guys were ...

Junior high farewell ceremony and party

... in the afternoon (kouchou-sensei was away until lunch). I must have revised my 2-minute speech about 5 times. The teachers were stressing a bit too because they had their own agendas for the closing ceremony and they needed to find a student to make the speech for me. I overheard them talking about who had the best pronunciation, which led me to conclude that the students’ speech was pre-written. It would feel less ...

Matsushima: another of the big 3

... I ended up in the nice pool, under the waterfall for probably a good half hour working out all the kinks and strains from dragging my **** around for these four weeks. The popularity of these sulfuric springs is that they had medical value--i.e. bicarb is good for skin problems and joint issues. But to get the effect you should let the salts and stuff dry on you, instead of rinsing it off. Now, in my defense I'd have loved to rinse off, but the rinse water was the same ...

... most people would watch, but it's worth checking out. Just forget the ending ever existed. Glossary Onee-san - "Older sister"; it's also used for an older woman you are familiar with (similar to jiejie in Chinese). Even though the "san" makes it more formal, the term still strikes me as casual, i.e. not something you'd usually say to your sensei. kimoi - gross, creepy, weird natto - fermented soy beans, a popular school lunch dish

Japans Halong Bay
