These are kids aged between 12-15 and are doing around 25 hours of tough (because it is tough) physical exercise every week. Each session, although fun, is mixed with drills, sprints endless laps around the school (I once did 30 laps round the school for a warm up - it took 20 minutes). It's serious business. ... being carried down the street by men dressed in short robes and no pants. While we were waiting for them to begin they asked Chris to help carry one but he denied. After I gave him a hard time he had a good point that he's much taller than most people and it would have been awkward for him to have to bend his knees in order to be at the same height as everyone else.
