The food at the restaurant was quality fare and really felt like you got a taste of what a banquet must have seemed like 500 hundred years ago. The chainmail head covering was a little heavy but I stuck it out for the girls sake as the "Knight of the table". I requested that I be called that on subsequent nights but it never happened.

We had to come up with a plan B and found the very pretty town of Mittenwald was close by. The buildings in this part of Bavaria are painted with murals which is quite different to other areas. We spent time wandering the streets and spending some tourist euros. We also found a good bakery/cafe and indulged ...

I managed to get into a few outdoor/ski stores and like most Austrian valleys the stores are stuffed with quality gear for summer and winter. And for the geography interested readers the end of the valley holds the only skiable glacier that is open 365 days a year for alpine skiing. The other aspect of this cultural immersion is I have not thought about the Oilers once. That has been healthy for my blood pressure.
