Neutorstrasse 8 Salzburg, Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria, 5020, 662-844154
Toran had never been to Salzburg and had never seen a Christkindl Markt (a typical German/Austrian Christmas market) so we decided to go there. About an hour north of Verona the rain changed to light snow and a few hours later we were greeted with sun across the Alps. Wow, that felt good... our plans were bearing fruit. Salzburg was in full Christmas charm, fully decorated and full of people. It is such a beautiful city. Today we went up to the Fortress and had a great time... How could we no...

... there for a day or something?” After visiting, we were like, “THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE ON EARTH OH MY GOODNESS I THINK I MIGHT JUST HYPERVENTILATE.” So in summary, check out Salzburg if you’re in the mood for some beautiful surroundings. Because as my friend said, “The hills are alive…over there! And there!”

It’s also quite an experience to see ...
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria cmvanacker... sausages again from the stall that we went to yesterday. Ian had a local speciality called bosna with curry spices on it and I had the same as yesterday. We walked around as it was a couple of hours till the bar opened and until kick off and Ian wanted to find some gardens but they where no where to be seen so we went and sat outide the irish bar waiting for it to open like some alchoholics!

When the guy opened the bar we ...
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria traceybelle... a whole of 45mins, which definitely did not seem long enough. Even though we both despise the 'Sound of Music' (apparently the hostel in Salzburg shows it 3 times a day!), it would have been nice to be in Salz longer than a quick stop. Must make sure we go there next time....

Having said that, we have an interesting fact, that we learnt from our lovely tourguide, that we'd like to leave you with...

Apparently you can dissolve 3 times the lethal amount of salt in ...
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria dan-and-dee... After that we spent the rest of the time just wandering around the very quaint streets unencumbered by bags, browsing the many delicious looking tortes in the bakeries (sadly too full of cream- yes apparatnly there is such a thing as too much, they didn't taste quite as good as they looked) and generally admiring the scenery. It would have been nice to have had more time here to go hiking up the mountain and into the salt mines and ice caves around the region ...
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria gilmoregirls... of his guests wet whenever they went walking around in them..waarped sense of humor but soooooo amazing when walking around in the crazy terrible heat for over 6 hours. Got alittle burnt but not too badly so thats always a good thing. A big storm just blew in unfortunately though so it cut our boat ride short and now were stuck in the hostel...but not a worry were meeting more people so always a plus...time to play some drinking games..nighty night
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria rampantredheadWe left New Orleans at 1:30pm on Saturday, November 29th and, after changing planes in Atlanta (nice airport) and Paris (CDG was as confusing as ever), arrived in Munich at 2:30pm on Sunday. Brother-in-law (b-i-l) was waiting for us at baggage claim since he arrived early that morning (and had time to visit the cute town of Freising). We got the rental car from Avis (a Ford Focus Wagon), passed on going to the ...
Salzburg, Austria herewegoagain... of the Altstadt anywhere on the horizon. I was forced to agree and we grudgingly retraced our steps all the way back to the bridge and then a further kilometre or so further until we finally reached our goal. By the time we found the centre of town I was near collapse and couldn't work up the enthusiasm necessary to explore the old buildings. We didn't bother to enter the Dom once we noticed the ticket office immediately inside the main entrance with its prominent sign ...
Salzburg, Austrian Alps, Austria cullismAugust 26-Monday
We left Kitzbuhel at 8:30. There was a brief stop in Berchtesgarden, in Germany, at 10:00. Up on the side of the mountain, we could see Hitler's Eagle’s Nest. It was rather chilling to see that part of history. The bunker is now a restaurant. Our rest stop overlooked a valley filled with wonderful homes. What a view! Back on the bus and on to Salzburg. Time 10:35.

Time 10:35.

The scenery all along the drive was just unbelievable. I cannot adequately describe what I was seeing and feeling. I did not want to take any pictures through the bus window because I was afraid that they would not do the view ...
