    ... the canal. As the ship prepares to leave some Japanese drummers are sending us off. They are a very friendly and courteous people. I decided to have a nice quick, quiet meal alone tonight after a busy day but Capucine and Nathalie soon invited me to join the captains table and some of the crew, I didn't want to intrude but I really didn't have any choice when she grabbed my wine glass and said follow me across the other side of the restaurant.     ... we got back to the canal the winter festival was in full swing but it wasn't quite dark enough for the full impact so we went for dinner.

    For dinner we had ramen as we wanted something warm because it had snowed pretty consistently all day. Afterwards we went for another stroll along the canal. The candles looked much better now.

    Soon enough it was time to leave to catch the train so we wouldn't miss the last bus from Kutchan ...

    ... and for a month in the summer each block is taken over by the large beer companies with food and drink stands, so this is where we went. One of the older men with us at the other table even bought me a beer, which I grateful excepted and then disbursed to those around me.

    ... to leave. I hung around the hotel for a while waiting for the weather to change. It eventually did so I headed out to Odori Park, Since it was Saturday the festival was quite crowded today.

    ... no bakery and the delightful Christmas cakes we saw in Tokyo are nowhere to be found.

    Back at the hotel there's no need to refrigerate the Champagne, nature has solved our problem!
