    Day 5: Germany

... with chips for lunch. On the cruise we saw some magnificent looking castles in the mountains surrounding the Rhine. Some of these castles included some medieval ruins as well as some that have been looked after. We then continued off to our hotel in Mannheim for some R and R. We finished the day with dinner at our hotel where we had a starter of Salad, a pork schnitzel with mushroom sauce and finished with a bowl of ice ...

    Day 11 Speyer to Gambshime

Simon learnt a new trick today: he worked out he can cycle the tandem no handed! ( as long as I don't wobble it, the road isn't too bumpy and the road is fairly straight). ... amount of time setting up their vehicle. We were told to park at 90 deg to the lake which we did. We started cooking tea and our new neighbours who arrived minutes after us were still attempting to park their vehicle straight and flat. We watched the palaver with much amusement whilst eating our tea. We are pretty sure they got it within microns in all planes in the end. We of course would expect nothing less from the Germans.

... streets and picturesque buildings. Heidelberg is home to the oldest university in Germany and is considered the unofficial intellectual capital of the country. Our guide, a history doctoral student, gave us a great tour of the castle which overlooks the town. The castle was begun in the thirteenth century and expanded over several centuries but parts of it were destroyed by lightning twice. It was improved upon by ...
