The cool thing about arriving in a new place at night is that when you wake up you get to see it in a whole new light. This Mediterranean fishing port on the Istrian coast is even more charming by day. After a much needed leisurely start to the day we wandered down the polished cobbled stone streets in search of bikes. For 50 kuna (about 10 New Zealand dollars) each you can hire a bike for 5 hours. So that's what we did. The Istrian peninsula ...
... point from Italy. So we bid farewell to ham products three times a day as our slow ferry lived up to its billing with a chug out into the Adriatic Sea. The town of Rovinj was alive and buzzing when we arrived at 9.30pm. A local group was singing very loudly on a stage by the water. People were drinking, dinning and wandering the streets. The first mosaics I notice are glimmering golden above a door in the 6th Century Euphrasian Basilica. We buy our passage and enter. There are columns that have ...
Got up early today and headed out of fažana today with some great direction via Ivan ( gonna miss that guy ) to see the roman colosseum in pula today as well as many more roman era sites in the town. Pula is a busy city of about 70,000 with a huge history dating back over 3000 years. The colosseum is the obvious major draw here and it's clear why... The arena is in better shape than its much more famous sister in Rome although it's still in use...they were setting up ...
