Day 10 Friday, May 22 2015 Cremona
A change of plans today. We were going to go back into Milan, but decided to stay in Cremona and explore this delightful town. And, we're glad we did.

But, no tap water to drink in restaurants – they want to sell you bottled water – oh well!!

After visiting the Duomo we walked over to the Roman ruins. We always find them fascinating. It's amazing how each civilization just built right on top the last. It will take this place years and millions of dollars to totally uncover this ruin.

... courtyards with lush gardens and when I mentioned this to Betty she showed me a book she has that catalogues the 'hidden gardens of Piacenza'. They are incredible - lots of the blocks in the city centre are built around a garden courtyard so from the aerial photos you can see so many patches of green throughout the city. I just love the feeling of walking around and getting little glimpses of hidden treats - even if I don't get to experience them firsthand!
... are fewer picnic spots in Italy than France but we were lucky to find a pretty one with tables in a wood.
Our Satnav did not have the place where we were going so we had to follow the written instructions from the Villa. The Borga Personalita , near Sovicille south east of Siena, is a huge converted farm house with 4 large double bedrooms each with en suite facilities all very attractively decorated and also with a huge lounge.
