... savouries followed by a wonderful duck breast in a yummy sauce with fresh vegetables. We did the French way by having the cheese course next with a range of 9 different cheeses, many local. Finally a lemon dessert with biscuit base topped with a light lemony, creamy mixture - delicious. Together with a champagne and a local rose it was a scrumptious meal with great company. It was so pleasant sitting out on their terrace and enjoying good food, wine ...
... our sails away, but we went up the channel to Port Olonna marina without incident.
We stayed in Sables for a couple of nights after a few days of hard sailing, allowing us to explore a little (and take a very very long walk in search of a supermarket. We eventually had to ask for directions from a very nice woman in a boulangerie who drew us half a map with some confusing instructions, but we got there in the end). ...
... to Steve and Jane's for another week.
Ground work is not for everyone. We quickly grew to hate clearing land, but enjoyed that the work was varied everyday.
Jane has an old Renault she allowed us to use if we wanted to take a drive on our day off; so we took a drive to La Rochelle, had a walk around the town, drove down to the coast and took a detour to Mcdonalds for lunch! :) Standard. Now we continue on to our next hosts!
... was the fact these guys are almost completely self sustained! They grow all their own vegetables, make their own cheeses, brew their own beer, ginger beer and spreads and even their own sausages, bacon etc. We are hopefully going to be shown as much as possible whilst we are here and learn some new skills. The food we have eaten so far here has been delicious! I had a really nice roast dinner on Sunday with everything on the plate being homegrown and you can really taste the ...
