... we were a last minute booking, we scored the best room and owned this magnificent outlook for the next couple of days.

The French and German hosts were beautiful and generous. Our fellow German and Irish guests were equally charming and friendly. Sharing breakfast with these folk was enlightening. To hear others travel experiences and adventures is always interesting and inspiring.

Our hosts took took us to their favourite restaurant for lunch. Chris being Dutch, we went dutch and had a good meal of mushroom and slow egg, veal with fresh pasta, and cocoa iced parfait with a very good 2011 Domaine Lapeyre madiran. The campsite was damp and sandy - not an ideal combination. The decision was to wander slowly to the Pyrenees south of Toulouse where we could hope for more consistent weather.
Our first stop was at a small aire in Villeneuve de Marsan. Almost full ( only 7 spaces) when we arrived, so it was good that we were earlyish. Nice spot - all French. Lovely and helpful. Even offered to share the electricity - there were ...

... slightly better than the last area specialty cake in Bordeaux - that was truly horrid... A little cake that you can't tear in half because it is rubbery inside - like under baked batter but chewy - with no flavour... Hard to believe the French could produce such ghastly cakes!! Might give up on local specialties and get something that looks good next time!

We then drove on to Lourdes. Sooo many people.... ...
