      ... we saw seven orangutans. Three mothers with each a baby and one male. The mothers are semi-wild as they are released from captivity sometime in the 70's. The male we saw is 100%25 wild and we were very lucky to see one, as they live more deep in the jungle. Two of the females with babies came close to us (probably because they wanted the banana we had, but still). It was so unreal to look into their eyes.       ... our lunch and were delighted to be joined by another orangutan and 2 year old baby. The guides set up lunch and ensured we were safe and they kept their distance, we spent a good couple of hours sharing their space and their antics while we all took a million pictures... wow an incredible close encounter with these fantastic animals, we were so lucky!

      Our guide Thomas somehow convinced twelve college kids to get their lazy bums out of bed before 7AM. I think a round of applause is in order. We strapped up our backpacks, holding (not enough) water, overnight clothes, and plenty of bug spray. We were off on an eight-hour trek to our campsite, where we would stay the night by the river.       ... track?! We soon realised there were several of them sniffing around as some of the locals use them to transport the 'all the gear, no idea’ tourists up and down the mountain. We eventually made it to the top and it was already fairly busy so dropped down one level and found a great secluded viewpoint where all of our photos wouldn’t include the top of Chinese tourists heads.
