We were shown to our room and were so pleased to finally have a ...

I took the bus from Lake Toba to Bukittinggi, which is a 17hours ride. I'm getting used to these long trips. It is basically to only way of traveling in Sumatra as there is no train system. There are some domestic flights but I like to travel by land or water (and like this, you don't ...

Whilst trekking in the jungle we made friends with another couple, Mike and Tia and the 4 of us decided to hire a car to take us to Tangkahan, a new eco village with a few guesthouses, restaurants and 8 resident Sumatran elephants! The ride was crazy bumpy as all the 'roads' were dirt tracks filled with small rocks, so we literally bounced for 2 hours in a jeep with the usual locals choice of ballads on full blast. We arrive and sign up for the elephant washing and I decide ...
