... next day was a travel day. We took a taxi down to the Ubung bus station, and grabbed a local bus to the western ferry town, Gilimanuk. This is the type of mini-bus that stops every few feet in towns to pick up and drop off people, so progress was slower, but with the beautiful scenery it was exactly what we needed. We got to the port town in 4 hours, and hopped on a ferry right away. The boat trip over to Java is maybe 30 minutes, and definitely takes longer ...

... out it was flat!! So he tried flagging people down and almost got on the back of a moped holding a tyre in each arm but luckily for him a bus arrived to take him to the nearest garage. But the 4 of us were just left on the side of a road not knowing where he'd gone or how long for! We had a laugh with them though. The driver came back after about half a hour with a new tyre and fixed it to the car so we could get going again! When we got to medan he asked ...

    Sumatra; remote, evergreen island

... took the bus to the lake. By ferry we went to the island in the middle of the lake. The landscape on the island was magical. You see the big lake, real quiet, and the mountains on the background covered in a thin layer of mist, with beautiful clouds on top. All under a blue sky... (That's I think the best description I could give). During the weekend the island was full with students. They all wanted to talk and improve their english (and of course take pictures). After ...
