... more veteran militia in Philippi and gave it the name Colonia Augusta Julia Philippensis in honor of his daughter, Julia.

Since Philippi was along the Via Egnatia (the major Roman highway), it enjoyed significant commerce from all over the empire and was a very strategic military outpost in the Macedonian region of Greece. With the heavy Roman population and the official title of Roman colony, Philippi underwent many major building projects to model itself ...

The locals amused themselves trying to feed the seagulls with cookies or whatever. My luck was not much better re seagull shots though I did try to get them with an island backdrop, Brys. The only gentle rocking motion was when the boat hit open water. It was a 35M ride, the smell of seaweed an indication shore was near.

Plotted up for the evening in a little town called Porto Lagos, it sounds very quaint but could be mistaken for Lagos *****ia, that is a place to avoid....
Booked a hotel online, it looked and sounded very nice, it probably was when the took the photos in 1960.....

Wandered into town for some scoff, ended up getting very drunk with some locals.

    Thats all folks!

We left Meteora after breakfast and headed to Kavala for our night stop before getting to Gallipoli. Erin said it was a small port town and there wasn't much to see and do but we still had an awesome day. We got in around 2 and a group of us went exploring in the 40 degree heat! The hotel was right by the water so we wandered along the water front and climbed a big hill up into the old town. After walking for an ...
