Lake Como

Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

... 4 mountain passes. At the top of the first one Paso Falzarego, the altitude was 2100m, temperature 2C and it was snowing quite heavily. The road had been salted which was a relief as we don’t have winter tyres. We stopped at the top of the pass and had a superb cappuccino in a cosy wooden restaurant.

Paso Pordoi was the final one. It has 33 hairpin bends on the up side and 27 on the descent to Carnazei.

Our visit to Lake Como was memorable. even 3 days of rain could not dampen the beauty of the land and the people. Lake Como is a giant lake surrounded by snow capped mountains. It is one of the most beautiful places we have been. We stayed in the town of Bellagio. It is known for its shopping and fine wine stores. So - let it rain!! Basically the town has 2 roads. One ...
