We took another overnighter, this time an overnight ferry, to Suratthani. It actually wasn't too bad at all. We arrived at 5 in the morning and made it to the bus station to catch the bus to Khao Sok National Park. At this point we met up with another Canadian couple from Red Deer, Alberta. Because of our "rustic" lodging in Koh Tao, we decided to splash out and stay in a "resort". It was pretty sweet actually. We stayed at the Morning Mist Resort. It was beautiful there. The cost wasn't bad ...

In the evening of the 7th we boarded the overnight trin to Surat Thani. The seats in the train were folded down around 7 pm to become beds, above each lower bed another was folded down to create bunks. each bed had a blue curtain which gave some privacy, it was very noisy, but thankfully i had my trusty earplugs to get me through the night, i suppose the couple of beers i had with the group would have helped aswell! We arrived at the station around 8:30 and after a quick breakfast took a 2 ho...

Long trip

... We made it to Surat Thani just in time to catch the last ferry to Koh Samui, which is then another hour ferry ride away from our ultimate destination of Koh Pha Ngan. We made it to Koh Samui and got a hotel right by the pier so that we could catch the ferry the next morning. The ferry for Koh Pha Ngan left at 11am and so we finally reached the island around noon. All things considered if I had to do it over again I would have paid the extra money to get there in an hour.

Day 84: Roast Crickets & The Cargo Ship

... shellfish were firmly in the "high risk of food poisoning" category. I applauded his kahones but settled for some simple pad Thai myself. Now, speaking of unkosher though... upon meeting back up, we passed an old lady selling roast insects in bulk: "I'll eat a cricket if you will," I half joked. "Okay, sure!" came Jeff's too serious response. He asked the lady how much three crickets would cost, but since she was selling them bulk she just gave them to us ...

In His Footsteps

... rest. The island is separated from the mainland by a small body of water. We chartered a small ferry that took Jess, myself, and our driver who, thankfully, joined us. This is where the challenge really begins because the island has a population of more than 1000 which is thinly spread over 50 square miles. To top it off, every building looks like the pictures of the foundation that I brought. I had ...

fatti vari

They started sobbing and all they could say was 'we didn't know if you were alive'. This was a common experience the whole time we were there. On our ...
