First news from St Anton

... e. black face paint on face, neck and arms (which they are still trying to scrub off! me and gemma wore our thermal bottoms as they are bright colours and gemma wore a black top. all my black tops were in the wash so I wore my apron back to front with the company logo covered in black tape. again, photo attached!

and then there was today - our first day off since we've been here and our first day on the slopes! it's been snowing all day (and most of last night) so ...

St Anton Vs Subiaco: A Comparison

... would probably charge $30-40 for a main meal. $22 is likely to buy you a foccacia or salad at a modest cafe in Subiaco. Again the difference lies in the quality of the experience. Perhaps it's just that I am a foreigner in a new place, intrigued by new and interesting dishes and unique ingredients, but I still find that I am receiving a larger portion, better service and more value for my money at restaurants here in St Anton, bearing in mind that the restaurant I ...

Up There With the Best

It's been a few days since the last update as I have been waiting for something interesting to happen. Since you are taking the time to ready what I have to say, I don't want to waste it detailing the usual self-glorified garbage that a lot of 'travel-bloggers' indulge in... ''Today we went to the supermarket then caught the metro to the park and listened to the birds sing. The weather was warm so I took off my shirt'. This is not ...

St Anton Worriers

... felt confident that we would be comfortable in our $450/week studio rental. Having now arrived, unpacked and slept the first night it would be true to say that expectations have well and truly been exceeded - this place is awesome. I won't go into too much detail, but the facilities include a huge bathroom (including double-sized shower, bathtub, 2 basins and toilet), Cable TV, High-speed cable broadband internet, full kitchen ...

Now you see it.. now you don't

We were planning to go to Liechtenstein but thought we may as well as it was sort of on our way. It's the worlds 6 smallest country so it would have been rude not to go..haha.

We didn't drive to the main town but to another.. where really there wasn't anything. I did get a photo with the tourist sign though. Had to somehow prove I'd been there!

Across the border

Our third stop of the day was our first in Austria. Now I was entering undiscovered lands! Feldkirch is right on the Switzerland border. The old town centre is surrounded by towers, and a castle sits on a hill above.

We explored Feldkirch and a few of its towers. The old town is quite charming with its colorful buildings, trickling fountains, and small shops. When we tried to ...

Onwards Down the Valley twds Austria and Germany

Our 'destination' on this part of the day trip from Chur was Lindau, an island city jutting into Lake Constance or Bodenzee. We changed trains briefly enroute and were able to pass briefly through Austria! Very briefly, not so's you would notice!!!

... felt rather fortunate (and comforted) to find it. The first thing that I noticed was that the altar is brought out into the congregation with the pews in the wings facing the altar. What a find! I can’t wait to get the pictures to show Father Spiess (hey, maybe we can write this off as a business trip, since we are doing research for the Heritage Campaign). This church was built in 1892 (pretty new by European standards) and renovated in 1978. On our way back down to ...
