We drove down to the waterfront from our hilltop hotel and explored the port area where the locals have built a lovely pedestrian - cycle only bridge, called Ponte de Mare. We left our comfy home at 9:30 this morning to head to the east coast. Our final destination for tonight was Pescara which is right on the Adriatic Sea. We programmed the GPS to take us on a scenic route today. We had to go through the mountains to reach the coast. What we didn't realize was we would actually "go through the mountains"! The site Stewart had picked wasn't too far from Vieste. We had to negotiate a few more hilly roads, but nothing like the drive a few days before. The landscape became a bit more lush as we approached the Abruzzo region. It was definitely mountainous countryside though and reminded us of our trip out with the film crew a few months before.
