I think we were on the road before 08:00 this morning. We had a very short uphill section from our overnight stop to rejoin the delightful road which runs over the Cisa pass, and then we were on our way. Again there had been a lot of rain in the night (once more with thunder and lightening) but it had stopped by the time we emerged. From then the day just got better and better and ...

Today Matteo & Caterina drove us to Milan for the day. We parked in the suburbs and caught the Metro in to the centre. The first stop was via Monte Napoleane where all of the big fashion houses have their flagship stores. ... and Italian linens. Other than a small cafe, there is no commerce on Isola Madre, the second Borromeo island and the largest of all the islands in the lake. This family villa seems to have been the repository of all the furniture that no one wanted from other family properties. There is not much of a theme-many of the rooms are 'staged' with mannequins in period costume playing the roles of servant, soldier or just 'hanging out'. The ...

... for Milan for my one full day there.

I met Eleanora, my guide to Milan in the city centre, meeting up for a quick bite. She showed me a great place that served small calzones savoury and sweet (it was quite popular, there was a long line, though it was very fast moving). After a delicious lunch we wandered through the main shopping area to the cathedral climbing to the top to get a good look of the city. Once we left ...
