... We met a couple from Texas and lunched with them at the brewery. We spent some time wandering the little alleyways and backstreets to see the less touristy parts of this beautiful old city. Dinner near the town center consisted of Belgian shrimp croquettes, Belgian steak, rack of lamb, a French merlot, and coffee with a waffle with ice cream and strawberries. Lovely lovely lovely, and a fine farewell dinner for both. Tomorrow we head for Flanders and WW 1 ...

... is the self-proclaimed 172 year old vampire within. Unfortunately, Willy Retsin’s Lucifernum – complete with coffin display – would not be open until tomorrow. One to note, I thought.

... which actually worked out fine – we all headed inside for drinks and hot soup and sandwiches. The mayor of Oostburg gave a speech, and by the time we were ready to start again, the clouds had started to clear. We marched to the City Hall for another ceremony and then pressed on. By this time, our feet and legs were starting to ache, and we were only halfway through.

After a few more hours – and another stop at the Holy Water ...

... was uneventful but only took an hour to arrive a grand central station.

Off for a walk to our apartment through grand place. Our apartment is big and lots of windows overlooking the main streets overlooking marche de poulet. No chicken to be found. However very hot and very noisy...and the beds suck....another trend in Europe. Im going to need lots of chiro when I return...just sayin'

... people kiss it, it will turn into a prince. Next we casually strolled in to the fancy Crowne Plaza Hotel like we belonged and took the elevator to the basement. Hundreds of years ago it was the Sint-Donaas church so the basement still contains the old foundations. Amongst the red carpet were walls made of stone almost in a maze, so we ran around and played hide and seek as mature adults do. Apparently in 1127 Charles the Good (Duke ...
