Paseo de Montejo 483-C, Between 39 and 41 Col Centro Merida, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, 97000, 999-924-7644
Cenotes are caves, underground swimming holes caused by meteorites hitting the earth.
The trip to the cenotes was almsot as cool as the cenotes themselves!
To get to there, we took an hour bus ride, then we got on a cart that was attached to a bicycle. We were pedalled about 30 minutes up and down hill. Then we hopped on this little rag tag cart that was pulled up ...
Progreso, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico annoiatissima... po' andremo a vedere qualche piazza.

Merida, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico annoiatissima... I immediately fell in love with the petit hotel with French and European taste! It has got a pool and fountain in the small cortyard surrounded by tropical plants and trees. The room is nice and clean and we both loved the five shower head jets in the shower.

For our dinner, Fredrik has already studied and picked the best restaurant serving yucatan cuisine. The problem was that we had to walk ...
Merida, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico catasleep... references to the rain god Chac at this site. After about 1000, when Toltec invaders took over the Yucatán peninsula and established their capital at Chichen Itza, all major construction ceased at Uxmal, and later the site was abandoned. This was our favourite site (besides Tulum, for obvious reasons) as from the highest structures you could see all the others rising up through the forest, especially the massive 35m, Pirámide del Adivino (Magician's Pyramid), the tallest ...
Merida, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico sarzmcSpending a couple days in Mérida getting the real Mexican experience. This town has a great feel to it. Even with the high heat the many tree-covered plazas make Merida very comfortable to visit. This town is more what I expected Mexico to look like.
Merida, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico magner... the guy fell off the stage! Next day we looked round the market, admired the colonial architecture, and headed off to an art gallery. All very civilized. We hit the road the next day and headed to Cancun via Chichen Itza. The site was very impressive but mobbed with tour buses. Its the most famous of the Mayan sites, and also has the claim to fame that it was the home of the Toltecs who persuaded the Mayans that human sacrifice was the way to go!
Merida, Mexico themcallens... our way the other side of the blind bend. It just stops short of us as the horse ran off to the side! The second Cenote is a steeper climb and higher climbing platform. - got to go for it anyway! It is also clearer for snorkeling, and the water can be seen to disappear in a completely covered cave underwater into complete blackness - too freaky. One of the Mexican guys from our cart decides to jump in from the small whole in the roof - a long long way up ...
Merida, Mexico lizzatwell... we got off, went down the stairs into the 'hole' and found ourselves looking at this crystal clear blue blue water that is below ground in almost like a cave. We dove in and swam around for a while. Meanwhile, one of our drivers took the horse for a little walk, like you would a dog, then tied it up. The other took the cart off the tracks so that other carts could go by while we swam. We had no time limit, we got to swim for as long as liked, and ...
Merida and surrounding areas, Mexico incrediblelifeLong long ride from Palanque to Marida. Bus drivers seem to stop when they want too, to visit family of just get a bit of cheese. They even pick people up on the side of the road to sell us there food, kinda strange but nice. Sometimes they pick people up in the middle of no-where then drop them off in the middle of no-where!! The further you go through Mexico, the cheaper ...
