... which was the focal point of my fog-cut-short visit, is the center and showplace of it all. St. Mark's Basilica -- the big cathedral that makes up one end of the square is like a treasured, intricate, handmade quilt with pieces of this and that mixed together to make a masterpiece. It is fun and funny and delightful. I saw Roman arches, Byzantine mosaics, Gothic pinnacles, and Muslim-shaped roof domes. Marble covering ...

A day of exploration best described our day today. Many hours spent walking down the narrow streets of San Marco, discovering the multitude of shops as well as encountering age old churches nestled between the buildings. Not a good mix unless you're Annette and some gentleman offers to help carry her case and his wife wasn't at all impressed...... Don't worry about me I'm the one with the bad back......... Next time I'll get her to drag both cases and that will fix that, princess - got to think ahead. Anyway hope you are enjoying our blog/journal as much as we are writing it? Until next time ...

... Our first destination was the famous Rialto Bridge. It offered us stunning views of the busy Grand Canal. From there, we explored the sestiere of Santa Croce in search of one of the restaurants recommended by our AirBNB host. Unfortunately, by the time we found it, the restaurant was closed until dinnertime. Instead, we stopped by another nearby restaurant for to enjoy panzerotti, gnocchi with crab, and ...
