      ... and during the first run the light conditions were very flat. This meant that we could not see any detail on the floor so we were having to compensate for bumps, holes and powder snow as we ran into them. There was a large amount of fresh snow on the hill which made the conditions good for skiing but the flat light made this easy snow an essential for survival rather than the icing on the cake.

Grindelwald is in the bottom left of the map and you can see the route lit up with green lights, up via Schreckfeld to First at 2168m. It was a very long gondola ride with spectacular views.       ... francs all up but at least we have enough for another week. Dinner tonight was potato rosti, chicken breast in a creamy mushroom sauce with green veges and apple strudel with custard for dessert.       ... by accident we sat in 1st class wondering why the train was so empty and quiet until the ticket lady came around telling us we weren't supposed to be there. 10 minutes later we ended up on the stairs by the door because both levels of 2nd class were full.       ... a beautiful old castle and wooden chalets. We walked down to the marina and found the beach path along the lake to Faulensee. Unfortunately it started to cloud over and rain. We did most o the 30 min walk in the rain but still got good views of the lake although the surrounding mountains were shrouded in cloud. Got to Faulensee and took a while to find the train station.
