Historical Traveler Reviews of Hotel Montana Port-au-Prince
Can't believe

I can't believe they are posting this hotel at a 2 star rating. It is 4 star. The hotel is niceeeeeeeeee, service is quick and very good, the food is delicious, the views and the rooms are magnificent. This is not just an hotel, it's a place located right in front of heaven's gate.
Spectacular Sunsets over the Bay of Port-au-Prince

I've traveled to Haiti for 20 years. I always look forward to time at the Hotel Montana. It provides the comforts of a first class resort accented by the special charms of Haiti. The Montana offers its own traditions of hospitality such as a staff that knows most second time visitors by name. By world standards, there are some shortcoming such as the variable service performance. But have a discussion with the management and you'll understand how hard they are trying to introduce world class service options into Haiti. The staff is always personable; the food and beverages are consistently excellent (try the Rhum Cocktail once you are sold on the Rhum Punch); and the views are unsurpassed. Each room is unique, filled with Haitian mohegany antigues and pieces of the owner's incredable art collection. The breakfast on the outdoor deck restaurant, overlooking all of Port-au-Prince, is spectacular and only surpassed by the views of sunset from rooms with private balconies. Despite occasional service malfunctions, this is pampered life in Haiti and part of the unconvenitional romance special to Haiti.

Hotel Montana is a lovely place. The food is nice, the service is prompt, the accomodations pleasant. The view was the best. Also, I felt safe there. That was important to me.
Paradise found

We came to Haiti to pick up our newly adopted son. We missed Hurrican Frances while it pounded FL and had to stay in Haiti at Hotel Montana for 3 extra nights (only planned on two). We were so grateful to have a lovely and safe hotel. Hotel Montana is a beautiful paradise hotel, with open air walk ways, a beautiful swimming area and wonderful service. By the time we left the waiters knew exactly what we wanted to drink. The service was excellent and while a bit slow (it is the carribean mon) was exceptional. The services were wonderful..room service with plenty of American type choices for children, they even have an internet access room, which came in handy staying in touch with relatives when we couldn't call out. Try the Prestige beer and their champagne cola (tastes like juicy fruit gum)
-Enjoy
Very Nice but the service!!

A very nice hotel, well kept and clean. Staff does everything to make your stay pleasant. Only issue lacking is the servive in the dining room. Waiting half an hour for your check after dinner on a slow night is nuts.
With the UN and other international orgs staying here, the service is really being challenged.
The place to stay

The Montana is a very clean hotel. The rooms are big. The view from the outdoor restaurant is great. The staff are very curteous. Reasonably priced, this is one of the best hotels you will find in Haiti. A safe bet for anyone.

Compared to many of the other hotels in Haiti the Montana was very nice. It was a luxurious hotel in the midst of all kinds of poverty.
