... group has so arranged things that they always get the back seat. Most of the rest of us feel it is ok to leave them there. A very enthusiastic "Glass Expert" (read salesperson ) explained the process of glass blowing, colouring and gilding. Another man made some demonstration pieces for us to see. It was interesting to see a horse grow out if a lump of molten glass, or a very pretty jug develop under his hands. Both pieces were destroyed after the demonstration. They were ...

      Leaving Venice

We loved Venice and our hotel room. We have a sleep in and our last yummy crossaunts. We pack up and leave at 11am to some more flooding and a beautiful sunny day. We catch a boat to the train station and have a coffee whilst waiting for the train. We have numbered seats and wifi. It's a really nice train. They served wine and nuts. The speed of the train flashes up on a sign at the end of each carriage. ...

      ... well.

Walked through tiny streets to get to a huge church at one end of this island but I didn't have anything to cover my shoulders so I gave it a miss this time.

The hostel has a little kitchen so I bought some tortellini pasta and some parmesan and pesto and had a cooked meal. Heading out now to check out the sunset from the quay in front of the hostel and read my book a little more!

... fifty exactly the same which I must have now! In the Campo Santo Stefano I decided not to head straight back, but rather turn right towards San Marco. Here, by chance I found a rather nice little place for lunch. Tavernetta San Maurizio, not far from the church of the same name, has the window chopped full of local dishes that can be taken away or eaten at little bars inside. All at an excellent price, I chose one of my favourites, Squid in its own ...

Rialto - crowded and hot - gelato please !

The Vaporetto was jam packed - all of them were actually. Anyone would have thought there were half a dozen ships in. We managed to get on a Vaporetto bound for Rialto and stood jammed in like sardines with Doug snapping a few photos along the way. Because of the crowds, it was hard to disembark and get a safe footing on the footpath but somehow we managed it. The crowds were definitely out ...
