    We travelled by train from Avignon to Lyon, just over an hour. Heard that our back shed did not survive the storm very large tree on top of it. Walked around the town. Saw a silk workshop, all still done by hand and watched them silk screen the colours on, beautiful scarves etc.

    ... m. For our excursion to the silk district where we saw a demonstration on an old loom invented by Mr. Jacquard, patron saint of upholsterers everywhere! Silk scarves and ties were expensive souvenirs I was not tempted to buy. Next stop was a half hour at Des Halles of Paul Bocuse, a smallish but expensive gourmet food market where marinated prawns were$100 a kilo and smoked salmon $60 a kilo. We bought a small local cheese we are yet to savour. ...

    The restaurant is in the old Bocuse family home on the banks of the Rhone about 4kms north of the city. It was a lovely drive along the river through old villages from our apartment and the restaurant was set back from the main road with a tree lined unsealed car park separating it from the road.
