        ... colours of the trees and the brilliant green of the grass was amazing.

        E failed to get any lunch as we discovered that 11:11 is a bank holiday in France and everywhere was closed! So we arrived at the hotel at 5:00 pm and were starving! We checked in and the owner kindly provided us with pate and bread and a glass of red....perfect!

        ... as we cycle along, we stop to look at the map as the roads getting a bit busy and an old boy cyclist stops and tells us to stay left of the Saone and follow the river as it's not so busy - he's also very proud of his Paris-Brest 2009 cycle shirt he's wearing. We then see that there's a cycle route down along the river, it's gravel but not too bad and with the weather closing in its nice to be off the road. ...

        ... archbishop of Lyon. After Notre Dame, It was a huge let down but still beautiful. I told Sandy I would meet her at the hotel for dinner so that left me with two hours and a whole street of shopping opportunities. I meandered into several souvenir shops but the soap store lured me in with their cute cupcake shaped soaps and brightly colored bath bon bons. A delight for your nose.         ... eating at "the hippopotamus". Unfortunately, it resembles a longhorn steakhouse. Not very French. But we were just so hungry and we wanted inexpensive food. Getting a table for 12 was easier said than done. Only one of us, Lloyd, can speak French so we pretty much relied on him to get around the city.         We left Nice and began climbing up into the mountains. It is very beautiful here. We drove for 200 kilometers to Gap. There was nothing of real value to see in Gap, just the church.
