Today I visited the town of Spišské Podhradie (yeah, try to pronounce that one) and the Spiš Castle. It claims to be one of Europe's largest castle complexes and has its beginnings from way back as early as the early 13th century! Chronicles first mention Spiš Castle in 1209 and some of its remnants are believed to still be from that period. Amazing. We are tempted to stay another day at Orava but really it is time to move on. Another storm in late afternoon caught me out as I went looking for a location to get a long distance shot of the castle. More soaked clothing doh!
